Jim’s ministry in Gospel music spans all the way back to 1961, when he started singing at the tender age of four with his parents in their home church. Soon after, they began singing at other churches in the area as their popularity grew.
In the early days, the only instrument we sang to was my dad’s guitar and my uncle Chalmer Agee’s mandolin. It was a simple sound but it filled the room whenever they played together.
Jim enjoyed singing and the sound of the music so much, he wanted to be a part of it. The first instrument he learned to play was the drums, then he moved on to the bass guitar. Soon after, he started taking piano lessons from a local teacher. Music became a major part of his life.

As he learned to play all those instruments, he would listen to all his favorite country music singers like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty. He developed his unique vocal sound by combining the styles of all the greats, intertwining them into a style of his own.
