Jim and Shirley wrote several songs together and included them on just about every project they worked on. The list of songs they wrote includes:
- I’m Not A Poor Man
- Simple Man
- Celebrate!
- Lord, Guide My Vessel
- There’s No Feeling (Like The Feeling You Feel When You Get Saved)
- I’m In The Lamb’s Book Of Life
- I’m Stepping In Faith
- Vision Of Heaven
- I’m On My Way Home
- He Will Provide
There are many other songs that never saw the light of day, only because they were just learning to write songs and didn’t feel like they should be recorded.
Jim states “We didn’t record some of our songs because they were simply stinkers!”
Jim said many times his favorite song is “I’m Not A Poor Man”. The song he had most fun singing was “Celebrate!”. “I would have sung ‘Celebrate!’ on every set if I could have gotten away with it. I’m a firm believer of celebrating the birth of Christ in July”.

If there was a favorite song that Jim and Shirley didn’t write, it would be “He Did It All For Me”. They relied heavily on that song because it was their most requested, and because they received overwhelmingly positive feedback from those who heard it. Another favorite of theirs was “Death Could Not Hold Him”.
Back in the spring of 2003 at Eastwood Park in Dayton, OH, Jim and Shirley was on the “Southern Gospel” stage of the event called “Coming Together Gospel Music Festival”. From Jim, “We finished our set with ‘Death Could Not Hold Him’ and they called for an encore. When we finished with the encore, everyone was on their feet. We came off the stage and returned to our booth area and were astonished at the throng of people who came and bought our music. We completely sold out of everything we had!” Shortly after the sellout, Paul and Shane Roark were there at the festival and spoke with Jim and Shirley. They were very interested in officially signing them to their record label and promotions company, SonShine Promotions. They liked what Paul had to say, so before they decided on anything major about their ministry, they asked Paul if they could pray about it and seek an answer from God. This was after they were invited to participate on SonShine Promotions Gospel cruise, a week long cruise with concerts every night and chapel services during the day.
After months of prayer and deliberations between The Profitts and The Roarks, they attended HisSong’s homecoming in Sheperdsville, KY, along with Paul Roark. After the concert, Jim, Shirley, Paul and Jetta Roark went to eat at Perkins Restaurant. That’s where The Profitts became a member of the SonShine Promotions and Church House Studio family.
